The Mummy 3
Tomb of The Dragon Emperor
Cert 12 111 mins

by Mehjubeen Akhtar

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)and personally I thought it was a poor film in terms of the plot, CGI and the actors’ performances.

Although the movie made quite a bit of money internationally, it was a failure with the critics and the box office charts. The studios have continued their franchise by making a sequel to the previous 2 – clearly it wasn’t an impressive move.

If I could rate this movie, I would give it no more than 2 **. But those of you who thought it was, entertaining look out for a possible Mummy 4!

Looking for somewhere to go? Look no further! All the cool places to go and all the events everyone wants to be at are listed right here!

Pink Day 2011

On 20th October, the Student Association organised its first fund raising event of the new academic year with a “Wear It Pink” day, where everyone at College was once again encouraged to dress up in pink and raise money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.

A total of over £700 was raised for Breast Cancer Care at this very popular event where highlights included a lunchtime pink penalty shootout, henna painting and sales of pink balloons and cakes throughout the day.

Children in Need

We all went dotty on Thursday 17th November when £434 was raised for Children in Need in another day of fundraising organised by the Student Association.

As well as sporting spotty ties, scarves and, in some cases whole outfits, activities included the sale of cakes and balloons, a staff v students badminton event, a staff photo quiz (matching up photos of staff as babies with a current one), charity leg waxing and the chance for one student to be "Principal for the Day".

Gaming is common amongst us hard-working students and that’s fair enough. But most games out there are just mediocre at best. Well, no more will you have to endure the pains of boring games!

Call of Duty: World at War

Platforms - PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, Nintendo DS (Reviewed on PS3)
Review by - Nicholas Wild

Call of Duty: World at War (COD:WAW) is the predecessor to COD4, shooter made by Infinity Ward that descended from the heavens in late 2007 and re-wrote the book on what makes FPS’s fun. It wasn’t without its flaws, but it proved itself a mega hit with audiences and was the most played Xbox 360 online game for months in 2007 and 2008.....read more

Super Mario Galaxy
Platforms - Nintendo Wii
Review by - Andrew Cooper

As you begin the game, them beautiful sounds that you just know are nothing else but our favourite plumber [no matter how expensive he is] Mario. The graphics? Out of this world, literally, we're being karted [Don't get me started on MarioKart DS] off to another galaxy. I think the only thing that is just only slightly annoying is that the game seems to never end, but we can't complain really, we're always saying how we wanted it to go on for longer....read more

Smackdown Vs Raw 2008
for Xbox360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Nintendo Wii
Review by - Andrew Cooper

Anyway, I recently bought this game, yesterday actuallly. I was quite excited about the new wrestlers in stock for me, not many. My favourite is The Hulkster himself, Hulk Hogan, he was missed out of the legends but some others were added. There are quite a few new wrestlers in this one but I wouldn't say as much variety of builds of wrestlers as last years did....read more

Fifa 2009 vs Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
Review by - Craig Lee

Before asking yourself what is wrong with PES 2009 you have to ask yourself what is right with it, this is not easy for me to admit being a fan on the series from its ISS day’s of the PSone platform. The lack of licensing was so often compensated for by the incredible game play, but on this occasion the game failed somewhat miserably. Some of the faults with the game are down to simple laziness....read more

Up – The Saturdays

by Mehjubeen Akhtar

This single is a great pop/dance tune that will get everybody up and moving. This new girl group definitely know the meaning of pop and every girl out there would want to be just like them. They’re a great inspiration and this track has that catchy beat that really livens up the dance floor. It has that high quality techno and dance vibe to it which makes it a perfect party song.

At Oldham Sixth Form College the Student Association took a leading role in developing the Anti Bullying Policy. We’ve also run our ‘R U Bovvered?’ anti bullying campaign and you’ve probably got one of the R U Bovvered leaflets we gave out.

Watch the video and see how bullying affected these celebrities.

This is the Anti Bullying Policy used in college.

In this presentation it shows different types of bullying and college can help deal with it.

This document holds information on bullying prevention.

If you’ve got any comments on the Anti Bullying Policy or suggestions to improve it please let the Student Association or Mick Walsh (Vice Principal) know.”

First Name:

Dear Girls:

Please enter the two words below:

Q: What procedure should I follow to complain about the music being played out loud in the common room to the detriment of all but those with the device? Some of the lyrics are often offensive and insulting.

TG: Because it is a common room and a social room, I don't really think there is much we can do about it. There are other places that you can relax and socialise in. However, as the music can be offensive - I have experienced this myself - perhaps there should be a ban or maybe a radio channel played into the common room in order to keep everything played neutral - this may prevent phones being played on loudspeaker. In the next Student Assoiciation meeting I will bring this problem to their attention so that it can be discussed in further detail with senior members of staff.
